Flight Memory

Saturday, October 27th, 2007

FlightMemory.com is a site that lets you enter all the data from your previous airline flights. It produces a cool map drawing lines between all the cities you have flown. It also aggregates all the miles you’ve flown and produces interesting statistics, such as the number of times you have circumnavigated the Earth, your total flight miles in terms of trips to the moon or to the sun. There are some other neat things as well.

I guess Jib Jab has been cruising Flickr for photos for their new movies. I don’t know how pictures of all my friends ended up in this movie. No idea at all.

That Other Jimmy in Key West

Friday, October 19th, 2007

weekley-web.jpgIt may be hard to believe, but there is another guy named Jimmy associated with Key West that I like. He’s former mayor Jimmy Weekley.

Jimmy Weekley was mayor of Key West about the time James and I started going there regularly. We both have a strong interest in local government, and we would read the local news when we were there, and sometimes at home after we fell in love with Key West. I always liked Mayor Weekley and from what I could tell, was doing a very good job.

So one of my favourite bands, The Tragically Hip, are returning to Dallas for another show this year. The concert is this coming Friday, and I can’t wait.

This time, the show will be at the recently opened House of Blues in Dallas. This will be my first time to this HOB, so that will be a nice bonus. I like HOB in New Orleans – it is a great place to listen to great tunes and have a $5 beer. Sure it’s expensive and sure it’s a bit “corporate,” but they at least get it right. Dan Aykroyd is The Man. Plus, as James pointed out recently, they have a Foundation that does some charitable work, so I can feel good about listening to good tunes and having a beer.

I’ll let you know how the show is…I know you’re all dying to hear!

GOP Is Losing Grip on Core Business Vote

Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007

There is an excellent article in today’s Wall Street Journal. It explains how the rift between social conservatives (those passionately against abortion, gay marriage, stem cell research, etc) and fiscal conservatives is increasing – to the point that social conservatives are threatening not to support the GOP presidential nominee and maybe even form their own party.

I for one would be grateful if that would happen.
