A Memorable Birthday

Monday, March 27th, 2006

James took me to a restaurant in Frisco called Randy’s Steak House for my birthday last Wednesday. I have to say, it was really a very memorable evening. I had mentioned that I wanted to try it, as it is one of the few restaurants in Frisco we have never tried. It’s a bit pricey, and it is a steak place, and James isn’t a huge steak fan, so we’ve never been.

It’s in a historic home built shortly after the Civil War. Learned an Interesting tidbit of trivia. My family had a favorite restaurant in Jefferson, TX called The Galley Pub. In the 80s, it was one of the top 100 restaurants in Texas. It is gone now, but we learned that the house that Randy’s occupies was built with wood brought over on a train from Jefferson, TX. Thought that was an interesting coincidence.

At any rate, we know of someone who used to work there, and James had called him for some info, and the guy ended up sending over some flowers for us (he now works at a florist across the street from Randy’s). The food was very good, the service was excellent, and the company incomparable. We stay so busy these days, we rarely get the chance to do something like that and just decompress and check in with each other like that, and it was wonderful. Thank you, James – you are amazing!

Jumping the Shark

Monday, March 27th, 2006

I learned a new term today, “Jumping the Shark”. This is both funny as well as useful.

The Wikipedia link above explains the term well. I’ve never heard it used prior to seeing it on a website today, which proclaimed that that website itself had “jumped the shark.” I assumed by the context that it meant it was past it’s prime, but this term is even more specific.

The Name Game

Wednesday, March 15th, 2006

OK, so Gallop posted this game on his blog, who stole the game from somebody, who stole the game from someone else. So I’m stealing it, too.

The rules are easy. Take your favorite band or artist (or just an appropriate one) and answer the following questions using only the titles of their songs as answers, as I have done below:

1. Name of band/artist: Jimmy Buffett

2. Are you male or female?: Jolly Mon

3. Describe yourself: My Head Hurts, My Feet Stink and I Don’t Love Jesus

4. How do you feel about yourself?: King of Somewhere Hot

5. Describe your ex girlfriend/boyfriend: I Can’t Be Your Hero Today

6. Describe current girlfriend/boyfriend: Bigger Than the Both of Us

7. Describe where you want to be: Back to the Island

8. Describe how you live: Havana Daydreamin’

9. Describe how you love: Anything, Anytime, Anywhere

10. What would you ask for if you had just one wish?: Defying Gravity

11. Share a few words of Wisdom: We Are The People Our Parents Warned Us About

12. Now say goodbye: Jamaica Farewell

Don’t feel obligated to post links to the lyrics for each song, but this is kind of fun. If no one else does it, I might try it with R.E.M. or The Tragically Hip.

Piccies!

I have had a flickr account with a handful of photos on it for a little while now. Tim has recently put a bunch on his and done a good job of organizing, so I thought I would follow suit and do the same. It’s fun, and will be updated regularly. :)

Where in the World?

Thursday, March 9th, 2006

So where’ve I been? Well I did some travelling for work about a month ago, but other than that, I’ve been around – just exceptionally busy. James and I have both been busy for about six months or so, with one thing or another. As mentioned in a previous post, I now have some extra work at the office and I’ve been putting in 10 and 12 hour days for about 3 weeks now. I did manage to avoid going in on the weekend, because I figured 60 hours M-F of last week was enough!

Unfortunately for me, the excess work will continue for at least a few more weeks until some of this new work begins to settle down. At least the work itself is pretty interesting for the most part.

I have to mention that we were watching “Drawn Together” last night, and it’s a very funny show. It’s not for everyone because it really pushes all the boundaries and basically attempts to offend everyone, but all in good fun. The show last night involving Princess Clara’s “Extreme Makeover” just about made me fall on the floor laughing.
